Who is your person? When you read a story from a dog's perspective the dog is always talking about his person. Every dog has a person who takes care of him, plays with him, supports him, loves him (even when he shredded all the cushions on your patio furniture). The dog is so loyal to her person and would do anything to make their person happy. The dog provides comfort to his person when they are down in the dumps.
But as people who is our person? Do you have one person you can always count on? One person who will make you smile, bear your burden, cheer you up, make you laugh till you side hurts? I wish that I had a person like dogs do. As an adult it is so much harder to make friends and keep friends. Everyone is so afraid to be their true self. To show the good, the bad, and the ugly to others. I am an open book, but I think that sometimes scares people off. People don't like to see others imperfections because that means they might have their own revealed. I have a few people now that are friends, but not quite "my person." No one that is completely honest and vulnerable with me, but that we can have a good time together and I could call if a crisis was a true emergency and not just my own drama. I am going to be moving soon to a new town where I know no one. Where I will have to try and make friends. Those friendships I have now will probably fade because of distance. I hope to find my person some day. That one true friend who will hold my arms up as Aaron did for Moses.

If you were moving into my area I'd want you for my friend and maybe my person! I love how you are so honest and real. You say it as it is. I've let go of so many friends through the years (or they let go of me) and sometimes I feel like maybe something is wrong with me. But, the truth is, I outgrew them or they didn't really see me for who I am. My grandmother use to say you just need one good friend in your life and then your a rich person. I am lucky that I have an older sister who is my person and always has been and will be. She always has my back. But, you got me thinking about the friendships I have.

You make such a good point here with your connection to dogs having a person. Good luck with your move.

You are so right about people unwilling to show the good, the bad, and the ugly to others. I'll admit to being one of them at times. Sometimes life teaches us to keep it all in, and it has nothing to do with friends like you. Anyone would be lucky to have a friend like you. I'm sure the distance issue might be true for many, but I know that I'd rather not have distance fade a good friendship away. Some friendships are worth the effort.

Your slice made me remember the sweetest leaving speech ever made for me (I move a lot!) when my teammate talked about how I was her person. I totally get what you are saying- having a person makes life so much better. I have had several in my life, but none in my current city. Good luck with your move!

I think my person is probably my mom. I have a really close friend, but I think she's my best friend because she lets me talk without pointing out my imperfections (which are many). Usually, I can point out my own mistakes without her even having to weigh in! I love that she can support me just by listening.
