Hummingbirds. I wish I was home watching the hummingbirds dash and dart around the feeder. All 10 of them trying to stake their claim, declaring, “It’s mine!” But I am sitting in my classroom pondering tomorrow and the new student I am receiving from the classroom across the hall and how she is going to integrate with my existing class. I’m wondering how the student that has been out of school for 3 days is going to act when he returns tomorrow, since he has been kept home because he hates school. I am wondering about another student who has missed 3 days of school and I suspect something has happened to his living arrangements. I’m wondering about the 3 students who told me they want to run away together and if they are home safe in their parents’ arms right now. I’m wondering if God will give me the strength to love them the way He does and to not give up. For now, I will just imagine my hummingbirds joyfully flitting about the back porch.
