Our fourth graders were challenged by one of our readers to a challenge. Here is her comment:
Good Morning friends! One of my favorite poems of all time is by William Ernest Henley called Invictus. The last two lines are: I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul The meaning behind this poem is an affirmation that we determine our own path in life. Can you incorporate these two lines in your own poem to see where it will take you? Remember, your poem should have these two lines somewhere in it: I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul I am looking forward to reading them! ~Crystal They definitely rose to the challenge! Am I my own Boss? For Gunnar’s Step-mom Sometimes I feel like I am told what to do Then I start to think, Am I my own boss? Sometimes I feel like I have to learn, This or that Do I know what I need to know? Sometimes I feel That way but I know I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.

One of our readers presented a challenge to this amazing group of fourth graders. She said, "One of my favorite poems of all time is by William Ernest Henley called Invictus. Can you incorporate these two lines in your own poem to see where it will take you? The last two lines are: I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul Here are the results!! You are you Don’t make fun of others As it will affect you And it really bothers Especially if you’re new If someone tells you what to do Just tell yourself that nobody can control you Andddd… That you are the master of your fate And you are the captain of your soul.
